I think they should get Peter Jackson to do some Harry Potter films
simultaneously!
That would cause a few problems, since there are fast-growing teenagers in
leading roles. If they were filming books 5 through 7 at the same time, it's
logical that Harry and Ron, at least, and possibly Hermione as well, would get
taller and perhaps fill out (get more adult musculature) during that time, but
if they were filming all of those at the same time, you'd have 15-year-old
size Harry in book 7 scenes, perhaps, which wouldn't work. Elijah Wood was 18
and therefore pretty much grown when they did LOTR, so he wasn't going to change
a whole lot over the three years of filming. But you can see some changes in
his facial structure in the second and third film, probably scenes they
"picked up" (reshot) when they had the cast return to New Zealand a year or two
after the filming was complete. There was one place in film 2 or 3 where Frodo's
face had the softness of a teenager's face, then in a scene not long after
that, his face was more angular, like an adult's (and he's in his 20's now,
remember), then a later scene showed him with the younger, softer face again.
That's why Moaning Myrtle, who's supposed to stay the same age throughout the
books because she's a ghost, is played by an adult, who should stay looking about
the same for quite a few years.
I read somewhere recently that the producers or studio seem to think the kids
will be too old to act in the movies past Goblet of Fire. I think that's
ridiculous -- they're still very close in age to the ages in the books, and there
are lots of movies with teenagers parts played by adults (look at
"Smallville" on TV, for instance, where Clark Kent is played at the age of 16-17 by Tom
Welling, who's 25 or so now -- that's just one example). I hope they keep the
same actors through all the films, as long as the kids are willing to continue!
