Mandy here:
The children have sighed on for GoF. OotP is still open.
I wouldn't be too concerned about loosing the children. Even though
most people seem to think they are getting too old, they aren't
really. Think about it; it takes about 15-18 months to create one HP
movie, so when PoA comes out in June every one will be thinking "Wow!
Don't they look grown up" and will talk all about the fact that
the 'current' age of the stars is 15-16 when the characters are only
13, and will forget that the stars were only 14 when they made the
film, what will be a year ago.
Currently the stars are running about a year older then their
characters, which is perfectly acceptable. For GoF they will be
15/16 year olds playing 14 years olds, and for OotP they will be
16/17 year olds playing 15 year olds. (If they start filming OotP
right away in 2005.) Even if production gets does get pushed back, I
don't see a problem with a 19 or 20 year old playing a 17/18 year old
in movie 7. The actor who played Tom Riddle in CoS was 21 I believe,
playing a 17 year old boy! Which I thought worked well.
The problem will be if JKR doesn't or can't get books 6 and 7 out
within the next 3 years. Filming will hit a full stop. Warner Bros
will be ready to start filming movie 6 in 2006, and movie 7 in 2007,
hopefully we will have Books 6 and 7 by then. Not only for Warner
Bros but for me too, the thought of waiting another 3 years for book
6 is stressful. ;-)
Of course JKR is not writing for Warner Bros and no matter how much
she might like her child movie stars, she is not going to rush her
books out to keep Warner Bros happy. She writes at her own speed and
good for her. And if I have to wait for 3 years for her to produce
book 6, I'll wait, I want it to be as good as it can be.
