Only real joy? {g}  I don't know what fanfic you're reading but it's not
the same as what I'm reading. {nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more} 
Nothing quite like when they get older and those hormones kick in.

Aye, I'm glad to see him happy after all the hardships and what not.  I
think Harry tries using flying as one of his 'happiest memories' during
the dementor training in POA.
