You don't need very long flashback portions. There are at least three 
places where short flashbacks would be in order to "show, not tell", 
where Fudge tells about Sirius's arrest, where Lupin tells his story 
in the Shrieking Shack, and where Sirius tells of his escape a couple 
of pages later.

I don't think they'll show the whole escape in the beginning of the 
film. A first glimpse of a Dementor looking in at Sirius during one 
of his "He's at Hogwarts!" nightmares would be cool, though. And I 
dearly hope that we won't see him escaping as a dog, it would ruin 
the surprise. Dog slipping through bars as flashback, I hope.

Alshain,
who for the record thinks watching Quidditch scenes on the screen is 
boring and that it's rather weird to be enraged on the part of a 
fictional character that said fictional character's been cut from PoA.
