I comepletely agree.  Another blatant example was the stripping of much of the book's humor for more "home alone" slapstick moments.  They completely remove the jokes about Hagrid's coat and how he can pull anything from it in favor of having Nevil bounce around (with some particularly bad special effects) the castle for 5 minutes on his broom. 

 I think JK should have insisted on a Brittish director!

I guess we will see how GOF turns out.
