action, so it's easier to read.  I know Star Wars I did this.  After
a while you don't even notice the bars anymore... of course, a 37" TV
also helps.

OK, pardon my confusion. But following these series of posts, I watched the
movie "Elf" in both wide-screen and full-screen. I didn't see any black
bars. So does that mean for the widescreen version they enlarged the picture
to fit the height of the TV screen, and chopped off the extra on the sides?
