In this and many of the replies, I see the same focus issues, some
people had when Gary Oldman was cast as Sirius.
I would hope, he's proved more than capable in that role, despite his
non-traditional (a.k.a. in no way shape or form, vanilla) sexiness.
Personally, I see talent and not looks as the pivotal deciding factor
in my casting fantasy world. Though they can be a factor depending on
their importance in the role...But in this one, sure to be requiring
heavy make-up??
Um, I think not.
He's played everything from villian to leading man, with equal ease. I
see no reason why he should be hindered here.
Ralph Fiennes is more than capable of filling the evil shoes of
Voldemort, good-looking or not...Especially considering the
disfiguring prosthetics, sure to used, in his make-up.
P.S. I will admit however, that I too, orginally pictured Jeremy Irons
in the role.
