    That is very much how I took the comment.  Also I saw the 'gay' 
word also used symbolicily for someone that is treated as an 
outsider because of something in their life, something that they had 
no choice about.  Being an outsider often makes a person more 
perceptive, compassionate, wise, and a little bit sad, all of which 
describes Lupin.
