So sorry for the lateness of this reply--I am new to the list (but
not to HP fandom) and have just read your brilliant theory, Sophia.
Bravo! I believe that you have caught the golden snitch with this
theory! Thanks also to whomever (sorry, can't recall your name)
posted the link to the actual interview in which JKR mentions her
displeasure at the artwork in the foreign edition, and how they did
not understand that Harry's glasses are a weakpoint.
"Harry losing his glasses, or being deprived of them at a crucial
moment, perhaps making a grave mistake or being in a life-threatening
situation due to blurred vision"--the idea sends shivers down my
spine. Perhaps this weakness will play into the likely downfall of
Dumbledore (master making room for the student to play out his
destiny), thus cementing Harry's commitment to overthrow Voldemort.
I also have an inkling that the end will be require a concerted team
effort against Voldemort rather than just Harry alone, so maybe
losing his glasses will force the others to "step up to the plate",
and force Harry to accept their help. Everyone against Voldemort--
that would be some final battle.
Thanks for your patience with this newbie post.
