Well, I am not sure that I have ever posted before, and I may not be going about it correctly, but I can't lurk about anymore and allow Minerva McGonagall to be the object of such libelous speculation. Yes, she is strict. But I do not see how anyone could be more loyal to Dumbledore than she. She has a very tender side which she tries so hard to hide. She was at #4 Privet Dr. all day watching and waiting before Dumbledore and Hagrid, and didn't want the baby Harry placed with "the worst sort of muggles possible." She has had tears in her eyes on numerous occasions when it has come to Harry's welfare. She took how many stun blows to the chest when she went running to Hagrid's defense in GOF? She gave Harry his first broom for Pete's sake. No. It is not possible or even remotely conceiveable that McGonagal would ever, ever, ever go over to the dark side of her own free will. She is a very strong, practical, loyal (and yes, tender hearted) supporter of Dumbledore and Harry
and would never, ever switch sides. She hasn't got an evil bone in her body!

That's a really interesting possibility! I've always liked
McGonagall, but never had any real strong positive vibes about her.
She always seemed to be a strict, "letter of the law", "all business"
type of person. She hasn't been shown to have a truly kind side; and
I could see where there's room for her to be revealed as either good
or evil. Interesting.
Best Wishes,
Marilyn

>> Wow, that's one I hadn't picked up on! I always took
her "tapping fingers" as just the sign of an impatient, busy person
who's been kept waiting by the tradition of rowing the ickle
firsties across the lake (which could be considered by some to be
quite a waste of time, but it does give the older students time to
get into the Great Hall and get settled, I suppose). "Evil" huh? I
can't see it, but then again, I like her a lot. Interesting idea,
though.
