--- <SSSusan:
While I think I could envision Harris in the "Escape from Fudge &
Umbridge" scene, I'm in agreement with you, Eustace, that Gambon
should be able to do so as well. The OotP scene I'm most uncertain
he'll be able to pull off is the trickling tear scene at the end.
I'm just not sure I can picture him with that kind of emotion. I
*hope* I'm wrong -- I'd love to see it done well -- because I think
it would bring some of the softness/kindness that Harris displayed
back into the DD character.

Siriusly Snapey Susan, afraid she's posting way too much today!

I think someone put it well when they said that the Gambon DD does not
twinkle ever. He was a little playful in POA, but he has never been
able to capture the light-heartedness that DD did have. This whole
discussion of Gambon reminds me that it is the job of actors to listen
to and work with directors, not writers. He probably didn't want to
know much about the books. It would be wrong somehow to cater to them
when this is a film and film is a different medium. But it troubles me
to see a story lose its internal logic when it comes to screen. I do
not think it would have damaged the film to maintain the logic of the
story. Otherwise we are saying that the story as written really doesn't
matter that much.
