You're absolutely right, and as usual the same thing occurred to me the moment
I logged off. I didn't know the band existed until now, and I'm even tempted
to go look for a clip of their music. Who knows, they could be awesome. I
doubt that people will buy tickets to their concert thinking it's the HP band
though, which was also a concern expressed in the article. Can't you just see
a throng of rabid HP fans mobbing the stage, demanding Jarvis Cocker? (Okay,
maybe one or two, but I think most of us know the difference between fiction
and reality. Probably.)
And not only is the press spelling their name right, they're pointing out the
spelling difference again and again! The lawyer said that the spelling was
irrelevant (trying to head off people who would point out that "Weird Sisters"
is not trademarked by the Canadian band - and I have to agree with her on just
this one point, because in a movie the characters are not going to be spelling
the name - as in "Hey, did you hear who Dumbledore got to play at the Yule
Ball? The W-E-I-R-D Sisters!") - but it's certainly relevant from a marketing
perspective!
