Doesn't longer hair make the guys in HP look good?

I agree, the boys would look better with a bit longer hair, but as Rupert
said in an interview for "Driving Lessons" where he was asked about his shorter
hair in OoP, "the producers own our hair." So it's up to the producers and
director how each person's hair is done. Either David Heyman or the guy in
charge of hair and makeup (can't remember, sorry) said in a magazine interview
a few months ago that they'd cut Dan's hair to make Harry look older, and it
does make him look older, particularly when it's neatly combed, as for the
trial scenes. I don't see HOW they could have Harry Potter with "neatly
combed" hair, but maybe it just sticks up in the back and that didn't show in the
photos, I don't know. I think Hagrid suggesting Harry might try combing his
hair himself (in the GoF film) was a foreshadowing that they were going to
"neaten Harry up" a bit. And at Harry's age, if he saw Hagrid combing his hair
for a girlfriend, then when Harry wanted to try to be more attractive to
Cho, he'd probably try combing his hair too (and it even says so in the books
that he tries to get his hair to lay down before going on their date together,
IIRC).
As for Emma's hair, I think we're lucky they have it as curly as they do.
Only in the first film was her hair "bushy." I think what they're doing is
allowing the characters to grow up a bit more than they're allowed to in the
books. Hermione in the books is such a bookworm, she doesn't worry much about
her appearance, and the boys not only don't realize she's a girl (well, in
Ron's case, anyway), but most people don't realize she's pretty. In the OoP
book, when Hermione tells Harry he should've told Cho he thought Hermione was
ugly anyway (when Harry had to meet her in Hogsmeade when he was supposed to be
on a date with Cho), he tells her he doesn't think she's ugly. I don't see
how anyone could look at Emma as Hermione and EVER think she was ugly, even
with the bushy hair - no buck teeth, for one thing, no bushy hair for another.
I suppose that's the filmmakers' way of making the kids more attractive to
the young audience. I mean, who goes to the movies to see ugly people???
Dan says he thinks Harry went home in a rage and just chopped off his hair
himself. I think the producers liked how Dan looked after he got his hair cut
for "December Boys" (so he wouldn't look so much like Harry Potter, I
think), so they kept that look.
JMO based on reading a lot of interviews.
