What happened according to the tour director, they talked to the owners of the train wondering if they could hold a party in one of the cars. The reply was "they would really like to run the train as it does not get out very much" Our group had exclusive use of the two cars that you see in the movie, several other cars were made available for promotion by a local radio station. If I remember correctly there were a total of 7 cars. The facinating thing was even through we were almost an hour late leaving the station how many people were waiting at the side of the tracks for the train to pass. When we paralleled the highway, cars would pull over and stop until we passed. I do not know if this was a one time thing or not. How cool that you got to experience that. Hope you took some cool photographs. I have a picture standing at Kings Cross between platforms 9 and 10. Of course, I went there prior to the films (I think they were filming SS at the time). There was a gentleman assisting people at this ticketing machine who asked me if I knew they were actually filming the train station some where else. He was a fan too and worked at Kings Cross and was sad that they didn't actually film there. But man that train station is so busy I imagine they would have a difficult time doing the filming there. Anyway, good for you that you got to actually ride on the Hogwarts' Express. They have now installed half of a luggage trolley in a brick wall between platforms 9 and 10 and labeled it "Platform 9 3/4" so people can have their pictures taken there (which I did, of course!!!). The regular trains are FAST (90 mph at least) and look like it. A steam train would attract attention even if it wasn't the Hogwart's Express! I suppose they must set a track aside for the slower "excursion" trains like that. They offer a Potter fan tour every July now on the Hogwarts Express (we looked into it while planning our trip, but we wanted to go in June before schools were out and when the flowers would be in bloom - and when it wouldn't be too hot!) Well, we hit school groups from Europe nearly everyplace we went in London - Dutch, French, German, and other languages I couldn't identify at all. (We ran into the Dutch students at Leeds Castle, and a tour guide told us they were Dutch.) The Potter tour costs about $2000 per person (that's US dollars, not British pounds - and you need to realize that the exchange rate makes the British pound worth about $1.85 US, so our dollars don't go nearly as far there as they do in countries that use Euros, which are about equal to a dollar in value.) There are filming sites you can see on your own or on day tours or walking tours of London. Just put "Harry Potter filming site tours" in a search engine and you'll find a whole list. The walking tours take you past the Leaky Cauldron, the proposed Ministry of Magic location, various other places. You can't get inside Australia House (which was the interior of Gringott's) unless you have actual business there (or are an Aussie, I suppose). I can't think of the other locations we passed right now, sorry. BTW - Dumbledore's favorite sweet, "Sherbet Lemons" are real, and are delicious! And "knickerbocker glory" is a real ice cream treat too - absolutely huge. (Remember Harry got to finish Dudley's knickerbocker glory in the zoo that time?) I was amazed at how much JKR used in her stories that SOUND magical but are simply British! LOL! If you have the chance, get on a train and ride north. Once you leave the environs of London, you'll see detached houses with those glass rooms on the back, much like the Dursleys! They must cost a bundle though - real estate in England is very pricey. We're English by the way, not British! I hope everyone will come over and take the tour - you'll be made very welcome. The website where I found the info on the knickerbocker glory said the word "knickerbocker" is American, but the treat is apparently "English" ;-) The thing about the Euro is, when you look at exchange rates, when you're changing one currency for another, the Euro is about equal to the American dollar, and the pound is $1.85 (at least that's what it was when we exchanged money here in the US. Fees at money exchange stands in the UK were a bit higher). Rounding off, when you buy stuff in the UK for 5 pounds, you're paying about 10 American dollars. American's need to remember that when shopping. When we were in Italy five years ago, Italy still used lire, which were worth fifty cents American, so we knew we were getting bargains in OUR money when we bought something at 10 lire (which would be five dollars), for example. Now with euros being pretty much a 1 to 1 exchange rate, whatever you buy in any of the EU countries will cost about the same amount in dollars, so you know how much you're spending quite easily. The exchange rates are published in various places at least daily, and often change several times a day when the stock markets (??? Whatever they call the markets that deal in currencies???) are quite active. And that's the entire extent of my knowledge about money rates! Oh, and I forgot to mention that we also watched 'The Little Princess' and it was so obviously directed by Alfonso Cuaron! So artistic. I, for one, would be disappointed if Harry didn't get to marvel in delight at things such as a tiny tent that opens up into a comfortable, spacious shelter for the large group that needed it. Remember his first look at the Weasleys' home, the dishes washing in the sink, the needles knitting, all the odd, quirky delightful bits of magic? It was enchanting and Dan's face told the story. I believe he said in response to Ron's mumbled "It's not much" with "I think it's brilliant!" And we did too. Jen D. "Michelle Chandler" wrote: > > It is a delight, isn't it! Well worth watching. Full version - 16 minutes: http://youtube.com/watch?v=hYeefLcl6Mg&search=Dan%20Radcliffe Short Version - Highlights only - 3:20 minutes http://youtube.com/watch?v=c0q2NOpttd4&search=Daniel%20Radcliffe%20Ross Since the full version is so long, don't try to watch it in realtime. As soon as you see the video screen press the 'Pause' button on the right, and wait until close to half of it has downloaded before you start to view it. At one point Mr. Ross asks Dan if he knows any adult jokes, Dan pauses a second and responds 'Do you?'. Both are excellent. Regardless of critics or other people's opinions I think SS is perfect and puts visual imagery to the characters and place I love so much. It is one of my all time favorite movies and I watch it more than any other. I am right along there with you. SS was delightful. Diagon Alley was just what I pictured (save I thought the streets were wider). When I was a teenager, Diagon Alley was what I imagined hiding behind the walls and around the corner in Greenwich Village. POA made the WW real, especially the leaves whirling around the courtyard, the not perfectly tucked in clothes. I wonder what I will think of GOF when I have seen it many times. ~~~Mary Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal. ~Albert Camus [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] From rkdas at charter.net Sun Jun 11 22:23:52 2006 From: rkdas at charter.net (susanbones2003) Date: Sun, 11 Jun 2006 22:23:52 -0000 Subject: Great Dan Interview by Jonathon Ross - Short and Long Versions In-Reply-To: Message-ID: --- In HPFGU-Movie at yahoogroups.com, "Steve" wrote: > > I was wandering around YouTube video website, essentially wasting my > live away, and I found a REALLY great interview of Dan Radcliffe by > Jonathon Ross. Daniel has excellent comic timing, doesn't he? I also love his manic personality. I've seen him in enough interviews now to know that it's really him! Not nerves or a fluke! He's quite disarming. I especially loved that "Big eyes" remark and asking him if he was in LOTR! Poor guys, they do get mistaken for each other, or at least used to, a few years back. To see the book characters brought to life in such a real way...growing up before our eyes, seeing the characters change physically and emotionally. Of course the books are so special because the story is so rich and detailed...and yet I love to see what the directors and actors do with the material. Malware latches onto unpatched flaw By John <http://forms.theregister.co.uk/mail_author/?story_url=/2006/06/12/javsc ript_worm_targets_yahoo/> Leyden Published Monday 12th June 2006 15:28 GMT Security <http://sel.as-eu.falkag.net/sel?cmd=lnk&kid=264075&bid=938413&dat=17649 1&opt=0&rdm=20060517> White Papers - Download them free from Reg Research A JavaScript worm that takes advantage of an unpatched vulnerability in Yahoo!'s webmail service has been discovered on the net. The JS-Yamanner worm spreads when a Windows user accesses Yahoo! Mail to open an email sent by the worm. The attack works because of a vulnerability in Yahoo! Mail that enables scripts embedded within HTML emails to be run within a user's browser instead of being blocked. Once executed, the worm forwards itself to an infected users' contacts on Yahoo! Mail. It also harvests these address and sends them to a remote internet server. Only contacts with an email address of either @yahoo.com or @yahoogroups.com are hit by this behaviour. Infected emails commonly have the subject line "New Graphic Site" and are spoofed so as to appear from "av3 at yahoo.com". Users who open infected emails will be redirected to a webpage at www.av3.net/index.htm. Symantec Security Response senior manager Kevin Hogan said: "Unlike its predecessors, which would require the user to open an attachment in order to launch and propagate, JS-Yamanner makes use of a security hole in the Yahoo! web mail program in order to spread to other Yahoo! users. Yahoo! is a popular email tool, and although normally closed to such threats, the exploitation of this vulnerability provides access to a significant number of internet users. "As there is no patch at present, users are recommended to update virus definitions and firewall signatures and to block any emails sent from av3 at yahoo.com." Yes, I noticed the Hitler look right away, but I didn't include it at first because I wasn't sure how people would react. But a few people in another group that I'm in brought it up and didn't get any bad reactions, so I encluded it! As for 'accio', I only heard the audio version once, so I don't remember how Jim Dale pronounced it. But I'm with you...I always thought it was 'ass-ee-oh'. Maybe 'ak-ee-oh' is correct..I don't know! After I saw it the first time, I thought he said 'ass-ee-oh' at the graveyard, but it turns out he didn't...but there was a lot of noise, what with the Death Eaters going nuts, and Voldeshorts on his rampage, so Harry's pronounciation wasn't quite as noticeable. Personally I like it, but if you don't: : For those of us that don't like YAHOO's NEW and IMPROVED CHANGES, there IS a way to change it back. Unfortunately you have to do this for EACH of your yahoo group. 1) Go to YAHOO GROUPS 2) Pick your first group 3) Under the Yahoo sign, you will find your name; at the end of the name you will find EDIT MEMBERSHIP, click on that. 4) Scroll down to the bottom, and click on TRADITION. 5) Last step: click on SAVE CHANGES. I never noticed that! I'll definately be watching for it!! I did notice a flub in PoA. As a fan of science fiction, I didn't care for the way Hermione kept appearing when she used the Time Turner. I mean, the first rule of time travel is to not be seen, and everytime we see her use the Turner, she appears in the middle of a classroom. And it was always when Ron and Harry were looking the other way...what about the people behind her?? Apparently they didn't notice anything unusual!! If it were for real, she would duck into an empty classroom, or a broom cupboard...or just someplace she wouldn't be seen!! Anyway...that's my rant! >(o.o)< Wootshanks can can wrote: Ok I know we've discussed this before, plus imdb.com has a good list of flubs from the movies, but i wanted to add to it, feel free to do the same so i can have something to look for in the movies for fun (like i need another excuse to watch the movies with undivided attention!LOL).
