No, the did not hurt Tolkien. They did a fabulous job adapting those
books. I deliberately did not watch the movies for three years not
believing they could be any good. My mistake. There is a vast
difference in a novel narrative and a movie narrative. They are not
the same thing. However, they kept the story well, and definitely the
visual matched almost everything I ever imagined. Perhaps you only
saw the theatrical releases instead of the extended versions (which
were Jackson's REAL intent). If so, your loss.
