Welcome, welcome to another year at Hogwarts!
> Which movie do you feel is closest to its corresponding book?
Well...I've gotten to the point where I don't really expect any of the
movies to be all that close to the books. I see them more as distant
cousins of each other. But the POA movie _felt_ closest to being
right, as far as I'm concerned (and that's also my favorite among the
books), even though they should have explained the Marauders and I
wish they'd kept Dumbledore's closing interview with Harry.
> Which movie plot omission do you feel most betrays the stories?
There are two errors of commission rather than omission that bug me
the most: first, in the SS/PS film, the way Quirrell was
handled--first, having the turban on and being unable to shake Harry's
hand at the Leaky and then the crumbling-into-sand death scene
witnessed by Harry (who should then have started seeing thestrals in
his second year, not fifth); and then in the GOF movie, the presence
of Barty Jr. in the Riddle House dream and the related post-World Cup
Death Eater melee. These scenes stand Rowling's original story line
on its head--Barty Jr. sending up the mark as a signal to "our old
comrades" rather than as a way to make the now-comfortable DEs squirm,
and the portrayal of the DEs as a truly powerful force rather than as
a bunch of bullies getting their jollies levitating muggles. The mass
destruction of the campsites in the movie makes it difficult to
believe anyone _wouldn't_ accept that Voldemort was back right then.
Who needed Harry's word at the end of the movie?

Well, the Dept. of Mysteries and the battle of course...but I'm really
hoping they manage to get Aunt Petunia's springing the secret that she
knows about Dementors and Voldemort, too.

No problem!
