Actually, they don't. It's a common misconception that JKR has the
final say on the movies.

>From accio-quote:

"It's the most amazing experience to see – because I've been very
lucky, I've been given a lot of input into how I imagined things and
they're really trying to recreate what I see inside my head."

>From Rowling Thunder:

"Do you have kind of control over what Warner Bros. does with Harry
Potter?"

"Can I prevent it in terms of what's in my contract? No. But they have
been very gracious in allowing my input; and I have been asked a lot
of questions I never expected to be asked."

In other words, they may or may not ask her about certain things. And
if she gives an opinion, they may or may not take her advice. She does
not get script approval at any time. Generally, they do appreciate her
creative input, but she is as surprised as anyone when she sees the
final result. As proof, I give you non-invisible horses pulling the
carriages.

I think that the movie makers have made some serious blunders. The
biggest? Killing off Quirrell at the end of the first movie. Go ahead
- read the book again. All we learn is that Voldemort left him to die.
I firmly believe that Quirrell is alive and well and will return in
the last book. I remember reading a quote from JKR after the first
movie premier which I can't find right now, where she says that things
looked exactly as she imagined, but there were one or two things that
bothered her. I bet! Oh well - it's magic. Anything can happen. But
expect book 7 to be Harry Potter and the Unexpected Return of
Quirrell. You have my word on it.
