Sandy now, getting up on her soapbox:

This whole situation is really pissing me off. One of the young guys I work
with and I were talking about all of this just a couple of weeks ago. He said
that HD-DVD will not work without having an HD-TV and he said a new format of
DVD called Blu Ray is being introduced and it will need a Blu Ray player. I
actually saw something about Blu Ray on the internet since then. How are we low
income people supposed to keep up with the technology changing every six
seconds? I really resent this. I don't have a problem with new tecnology, but for
heaven's sake, you don't have to scrap the old, especially since it isn't all
that old.

HP is becoming a prime example of that. GOF was the first HP movie that was
not released on VHS. I have a DVD player, but it is 4 1/2 years old and already
obsolete. I have all four HP movies on DVD but I have the first three on VHS
as well because I still use my VCR more than my DVD player, perhaps because it
is obsolete. Furthermore, because I wanted the deluxe two disc set, I have
GOF in widescreen. I *hate* widescreen, but I had no choice; it was the only way
the two disc set came. Had I been able to afford to do so I would have bought
the single disc in full screen too and swapped out the disc in the deluxe set
and given the wide sreen disc to my grandkids, but I couldn't. And now, with
them pulling them, I may never get the opportunity.

I feel certain they will release OOP on DVD in time for the holidays at the
end of this year and I already shudder at the thought. In what format are they
going to release it? Am I going to have to buy a new player and then have to
replace the discs I already have, and my television too?

So I agree with you. It is definitely too early for WB to be doing all of
this. As far as pulling the movies from the shelves: I can see them doing this
once all seven movies have been made and released and then re-releasing them
every so many years, but it seems absolutely stupid to do this in the middle of
the series, especially with a new movie coming out this year. Being as how I
work for a major corporation (god how I hate corporate America) it has made me
cynical enough to believe that this is just a ploy for fattening WB's coffers,
as well as other corporate coffers too (i.e. in having to buy new equipment).
Where do the working class people fit in any more?

Sandy, sheepishly getting off her soapbox and dusting her robes.

On a brighter and calmer note:

I was off this past Saturday, which is a very rare occurence for me. I was
only off three Saturdays the whole year last year; my two weeks of vacation and
when my Mom died. I wound up having a very nice, peaceful, calm relaxing day
-- also very rare, and I topped it off by watching Sorcerers Stone on the
Disney Channel. I love that movie and it remains my favorite of the HP series so
far. It is almost heartbreaking seeing the kids so young and sweet and innocent,
and knowing that they have already grown up, and in Daniel's case too much
so. And oh how I miss Richard Harris as Dumbledore. He will always be the *true*
Dumbledore to me. And even Alan Rickman looks so much younger. And there is
Flitwick as he should be. Yep, I really have a soft spot in my heart for that
movie, and it provided a perfect ending for a rare perfect day.
