>>Thanks a lot for the info, Artsylynda! It's good to know because
no way I'm going to buy a new DVD player anytime soon (until my
old one dies of course)
Same with my TV.
Will WB be releasing these HD DVD's in all regions, including
region 2 (Europe)? I wasn't sure if they were planning this
worldwide, or just region 1... It would make sense to do this
worldwide, though.

You're welcome! I am just a fan like you and have no "inside information"
about WB's plans. The announcement we've been talking about was an American
news announcement, as far as I know. Have you seen an article in your local
paper or heard it on the news where you are? If not, maybe they aren't
pulling the regular DVDs from your area yet. I just don't know. I'm sure WB will
be releasing HD DVDs in every area that makes economic sense. They released
them in the UK months ago, if I recall correctly (probably as a test
market), and Amazon has an HD DVD available of GoF, or did the last time I looked.
Since I was on Amazon.com not Amazon.co.uk, I suppose that HD was aimed at
the US market. And no, I don't know if a UK DVD would play properly on an
American DVD player - I know their VHS systems (called PET systems, IIRC)
wouldn't play our tapes. Perhaps with the worldwide domination of Microsoft in the
computer industry and CDs in the music industry, DVDs have become
standardized worldwide so they'll play in computers or DVD players around the world.
But I don't KNOW this - it just makes sense to me.
As in the above example, I'm just looking at evidence (news stories) and
making logical assumptions about the HD DVD release, based on the fact that
every business (other than nonprofit ones) is in the business of making money.
They will do whatever it takes to maximize their profits from this "cash cow"
called Harry Potter. They won't cut off their noses to spite their faces -
IOW, they won't do something that will COST them sales. They're trying to
MAXIMIZE sales. So they'll probably add a bunch of fun stuff to the HD DVDs to
make those of us who already have complete sets also want to buy complete
sets of the HD versions. That's just an educated guess, but it makes a
tremendous amount of sense to me. Hope this helps.
