Creature in Hagrid's hut?

In POA, that thing is some identified creature that only Hagrid would have, i don't remember a mention in the book at all.  The skewt was that little thing in Goblet/movie that Mad-Eye had bewitched and killed.  The description of the skewts was they were crab like with no face exactly, but either a whole or a stinger on the end of it.  The only thing is that little thing Mad-Eye had didn't shoot any fire out at random.
