With the brains flying around, prophecies shattering, wands blazing, that's bound to be spectacular! Carol responds: I read somewhere that the brains scene is being cut. Not that it won't be spectacular, anyway. I just hope they leave in Snape being snarky to Umbridge and bowing ironically as he leaves the room. I must say that I am impressed by his work and I am very excited that we have him involved in OOtP and HBP. I was able to find and rent three of his movies: The Girl in the Cafe, The Young Visitors, and The Way We Live Now. The Girl in the Cafe is set in modern times and tells the story of a very lonely man who meets a young woman by chance one day in a cafe and the results of that chance meeting. The story has a political aspect to it that is very emotionally compelling but the delicacy to the relationship between the two main characters that Yates creates - the long pauses - is really quite wonderful. I love a director who is not afraid of long pauses, and knows just how long to stretch them out for dramatic effect and give the actors the room to actually act. The Young Visitors and The Way We Live Now are both period pieces and well staged and costumed. 'Visitors is more of a child-like humorous yet poinant story with a small cast. 'Now is a wickedly funny and dramatic mini-series and is based on the book by Anthony Trollope. All three movies star well known British actors such as Bill Nighy, Kelly MacDonald, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Laurie, Cillian Murphy, and Shirley Henderson (who plays Moaning Myrtle). All in all I think OOtP and HBP are in good hands. Yates can really tap into the humor and urgency and poinancy of the moment, which is exactly what is required for Harry's journey through these two stories. Message-ID: Regarding trailers being shown... Sometimes a theater will get 3 trailers for a good movie coming out (in this case, OoTP) and they will get 8 or so copies of a movie that it's supposed to air in front of. So they don't have enough copies of the trailer to put in front of every movie. It's a good idea to ask the ticket sales person or the manager "is that the theater with the OoTP trailer?" They should know the answer, because they know which trailers are important to people. I used to manage a movie theater, that's how I know this sort of thing. They said it would show before some kid's movie (sorry cannot remember which one) so when my son's said they might like to see this certain film (which I thought looked silly), I went with them hoping to see it. Alas, it didn't play and yes the movie was silly. So afterward, I asked and the guy at the information booth (this was an AMC Mega-theater by the way) said that they get trailers in and it was the manager's discretion which ones to put it with but he thought they had put it with that particular film. So now that I know they only get so many copies it makes sense that we didn't get to see it as there were about 30 seperate screening rooms in this theater. So maybe it was in one of the other two showing that silly movie - a friend of mine took her kids two days earlier than I did and saw the trailer and her kids are not Harry fans (neither is she) but she was who I had heard it from so I was willing to go to the movie I didn't really want to see in hopes of the trailer. Valerie<< I think the angst is the main thing in this film, from things I've read. Before they started, Dan and the director had several weeks of sessions with a grief therapist to help Dan get a handle on how Harry feels, having witnessed Cedric's death. I've seen a photo of Remus holding Harry as Harry tries to get to the veil to bring Sirius back, and the anguish on Dan's face is astounding. Dan has said that he was ready to be pushed, and that David Yates pushed him hard - and that may be why they asked Yates to do the next film, as well. From everything I've seen, Harry and Dan have both grown up and Dan's showing a tremendous range of emotion in the scenes I've seen so far. Can't WAIT to see the film!!! So my question, or point (because I do have one lol) is do you guys think they are going to make Cho the snitch as a way to get back at Harry for...I don't know, jealousy or not thinking Hermione is ugly? Julie: It is Cho who is the snitch, but from what I've heard she reveals the information by "accident." I assume the movie people decided to use Cho because of time constraints--to condense the plot and avoid adding another subplot with a character (Marietta) who would have to be introduced and her betrayal of the DA explained, not to mention going into the whole hex on the parchment by Hermione and resulting purple pustules on Marietta's face, etc. Even without the several minutes of movie time saved by deleting this stuff, it could be that the writer or director wasn't that comfortable showing Hermione's brand (pun intended) of revenge against Marietta. The movies tend to draw the bad guys and the good guys in a more black and white style than the books (again due to time constraints and because the movie medium focuses more on showing rather than telling--or reflection--especially for action-oriented movies such as HP). Thus it's more straight-forward to leave it to the bad guys to use such vengeful forms of punishment rather than having one of the heroes do so and invite potential discomfort with said hero's tactics by some fans (especially if there is to be no follow up later and this scene is it). Just a thought. Julie, figuring time constraints still top all when it comes to what is and isn't in the movies. I can think of worse character smooshings. Looking at some of the stills on leaky cauldron, especially those stickers from the Italian site, I am really liking the "gritty" look. > -----Original Message----- > From: HPFGU-Movie at yahoogroups.com [mailto:HPFGU-Movie at yahoogroups.com] On > Behalf Of can can > Sent: Wednesday, May 30, 2007 8:54 AM > To: HPFGU-Movie at yahoogroups.com > Subject: [HPFGU-Movie] Re: Six new TV clips online > > >Julie, figuring time constraints still top all when it > >comes to what is and isn't in the movies. > > > I knew it had to be a time constraint issue to screw up the plot. Sometimes I just hate motherly love!!!! On the other hand, I'm trying to convince the family to take the family trip to an amusement park the weekend DH comes out. I'll read the whole way there, they can go into Hershey Park and I can read in peace in the hotel room. And no one will complain that I haven't cooked a meal all weekend. Lord of the Rings had the nerve to do it! LOL. I'll have to read the book again to refresh my memory before I can carve my comments in stone, but I agree with you Candace! But I also heard that the producers for "Pirates 3" were disappointed because, even they opened in the U.S. on Thursday, that was not calculated into their 'Opening Weekend" earnings. So Spiderman still has them beat out. But no matter...the earlier the better for HP5, as far as I'm concerned!!! I'm still regularly checking the IMAX website in Washington DC to see if they are going to play the movie there. I saw GOF there and it was phenomenal! I called IMAX and they said they were 'in negotiations' with Warner Bros. to show it. I'll cross my fingers! Soon, soon, soon, ya'll!!!
