JKR might disagree about the books being for children, but yes, that's 
a good point. 

There was quite a bit of discussion about Harry's ulimate fate, which 
really heated up before DH came out. Both sides (must die/ must not 
die) had good points. I'm glad it ended the way it did for Harry. The 
novels I've read with a hero or very important side character's death 
have left me drained. I become too attached to these fictional 
characters.

In this series the amount of death was one too many for me.
