It was the scriptwriter, the director, and it was okayed by JKR.
The whole scene was PHENOMENAL! Visually the Special Effects, the
Direction, choreography, et.al.
There were very few lines and a great deal of action BUT when I heard
that line, I was very impressed!
With that one 'throw-away' line Michael Goldenberg was able to get
across a monumental amount about Sirius, his history
and his state of mind. VERY CLEVER!!!!!
In this battle Sirius was reliving his glory days, he was jazzed, he
was thrilled, gleeful, and in control of his situation (he chose to
be there). He was getting that "rush" that had so long been denied
him while shut away in Grimmauld Place. In his excitment (almost
giddy) he 'forgot' current reality. And since Harry looks like James
(except for his eyes) the mistake is very understandable.
In the book, Molly yelled at Sirius because he is (in her POV)was
being reckless and she says (paraphrased) "Sirius, he is not James!"
I don't think that this is said in the movie (not sure).
In the movie, Sirius says "Good one, James" twice. Once in Snape's
memory when Teen/James is tormenting Teen/Snape. And the second time
in the climatic battle scene. That one small line (three little words)
tied together his past with his present. Masterful Work!
IMHO Sirius was really quite damaged and flawed, sadly so. I think
that his time locked away in Grimmauld Place did more damage than his
time in Azkaban. Being sent to Azkaban was a mistake...Being forced
to stay at Grimmauld Place was an order from someone that he
respected and admired...Dumbledore. A place where he was haunted by
ghosts of his past and a deranged house elf.
