Pippin Fowler:
This is my understanding:
The complete official name of the United Kingdom is the United
Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The Republic of
Ireland is not included in the UK.
Great Britain is the island comprised of England, Scotland, and
Wales. Residents of Great Britain are British. Residents of the UK
(including Northern Ireland) are also known as British. Residents of
Ireland (Eire) today are not British, though historically residents
of 'The British Isles' (including all of Ireland) have been called
British. Ireland seceded from the UK in 1922.
Corrections? Additions? Subtractions?
