iirc. I suspect they just wrote this part of the story off the movie,
that's all. Listen to DD's speech at the end of OotP - he doesn't say
anything about the eavesdropper or about LV only knowing the first
half of the prophecy.

Carol responds:

Just to be clear, when I said upthread that "the eavesdropping scene
is definitely in," I meant Harry eavesdropping on Snape and Draco, not
Snape eavesdropping on DD and Trelawney. And we know that the scene
with Harry eavesdropping is in because of the photos (now removed from
Leaky) of Snape and Draco together at Slughorn's party (neither
looking happy) and of Snape standing in a corridor watching Draco
walk, or rather, slouch angrily away.

I'm not sure whether I confused you or not, but I thought I should
clarify just in case.

With regard to the original eavesdropping (never an actual scene in
the books), apparently they intend to leave that out--or have DD tell
Harry (whose enmity for Snape needs to be at white heat, IMO, when
Snape kills DD), the better to make Snape look like a murdering
traitor against whom Harry can desire revenge.

But that aside, I think it's a sad (if minor) loss not to have
Trelawney shuffling her cards and foreshadowing events on the tower,
which otherwise will hit nonreading viewers unprepared. (I'm afraid
that HBP will be like my memory of "Camelot"--mostly light and fluffy
for half or three-quarters of the film and then suddenly, inexplicably
dark. "Spinner's End" can only do so much in setting the tone since it
will be at or very near the beginning of the movie.)

The whole Prophecy motif was pretty much ruined by the OoP film. How
will they account for Snape's remorse and "return to our side" in DH
II without it?

Carol, noting that the corridor photo of Snape and Draco is still up at

and a darkish version of the Snape and Draco at the party photo is
still up at

I expect that they'll be asked to take both photos offline soon, so,
erm, download them while you can and pretend you didn't hear that
advice from me!

Carol, who thinks that Warner Bros. would be better off leaving such
good publicity online instead of worrying about copyright and/or
trademark violations
