Richard:

A background cameo as just another parent sending their child off to Hogwarts would be very nice.  I do not think it would be distracting.  I do not recall the ages of all of Rowling's children, but I bet they would all want to be in the scene somehow.

The Twilight author Meyers had a tiny cameo in the first movie, and it was cute without being at all distracting.  Just an extra doing something normal.
