Two Movies or One? You be the judge.

Well, they have already decided to release the 7th book as two movies, so no need to discuss that particular aspect, but after seeing Part 1, and seeing how massively fast they ran through the book, I can't imagine what a disaster one book=one movie would have been.

They are already cutting the story extremely thin, to cut it even further, down to one movie, would have been incomprehensible.

Overall I was satisfied with the movie, and am considering going and seeing it for a third time this weekend.

But I still have the standard gripes I have with every HP movie -

- in most of the movie, the inclusion of a few of the deleted scenes would have made the movie make more sense, and would have only added about 10 minutes to the movie. The movies rarely end precisely on an even half hour, so extending the movie from 2hrs 20 minutes to 2 hours 30 minute would have made no difference at all to the external logistical consideration, but would have fleshed out the movie nicely.

- carrying on with that thought, I lot of potentially emotional scenes and characters I would like to care about, are lost because they simply don't take the time to develop the scene or the character.

I understand they are under time constraints, but in not developing these scenes and character, they are cutting the emotional heart out of the movies.

- last, though not least, is the decision to alter the text to accomplish something, like the transfer of a piece of information, when the original text would have done just as well or better than the producer/directors alternate choice. In short, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Still, gripes aside, I'm not sure how well I would react if all these decisions were placed in my hands. It can't be easy, and I think at some point they are simply forced to make a decision and move forward. They are on a tight production schedule and can't afford to agonize over every little detail for weeks at a time. At some point, you simply have to move forward to stay on schedule.

Just a few thoughts.
