As others have pointed out, it's whether you go for the French or English 
pronunciation; I prefer to sound the 't'.

It's actually Voldemort - no middle 'r'. 'Vol de mort' gives us two meanings
in French depending on context. It can be 'flight of death' or 'thief of death'',.

Looking at Death Eaters and Voldemort's desire for immortality, I would vote 
for the latter, knowing JKR's penchant for word plays.
