From lkotur at yahoo.com Sat Oct 29 13:15:22 2011 From: lkotur at yahoo.com (lkotur) Date: Sat, 29 Oct 2011 13:15:22 -0000 Subject: The Final Verdict Message-ID: Well since I had a little accident and had to convalesce for 3 weeks, I decided to review Harry Potter. I started by reading Book 1 and then watching movie 1 ... until I finished with HP&TDH. I stopped reading the book with the death of Dobby and then watched the movie. Up to this point, the books and movies, being different, I give the books the edge because our minds and imaginations "paint" the picture. The movies stand on their own and tell the story quite well (while omitting story lines that work in the book but would not translate to the big screen)and you could understand what was going on even if you did not read the books. Now the last movie was a little problematic. Knowing some "shady" characters that I appealed to, I had a DVD given to me that was a descent representation of the theatrical release ( you could tell that it was recorded in a movie theater - I could hear people talking and commenting about the movie and even a cell phone ringing). I need to revise my previous opinion of HP&TDH part 2. I previously stated that the movie nose dived when Harry fell out of Hagrid's arms. I was wrong. No wait, I was absolutely spot on in my analysis. The writers and director totally veered away from the story line at that point and the rest of the movie has no connection to the story in the book (except the epilog). Yea, I know people died etc etc etc... but they deviated from what JKR worked so hard to build up to the climax to tell the whole story and they (director - writers) just flushed everything down the potty. I bet if you could get JKR to tell the absolute truth, she would say she was disappointed with the last movie. As an author and the one who created the HP Universe, there could be no other conclusion. Glad that you are convalescing.
