I purchased the German BluRay of the movie from Amazon.com (USA) for $33. The price was a bit steep, but it was the only way I could see the movie.
Very good movie. One must make some allowances for it being a somewhat low budget indy film, but the performances were very good. With all the main characters you immediately became so immersed in the characters that you forgot the actors.
The film didn't quite go where I thought it was going to go, but then it really shouldn't, if I can completely predict a film before I see it, then it's not that original of a film.
The Story takes place over the span of a long weekend, and it is amazing at how caught up in the moment the characters become. Shortsighted teenagers.
Rupert Grint (Malachy) is a straight 'A' student with clueless boring parents.
Rober Sheehan (Luke) is a lost boy. He and his drunked drugged out father spend their lives selling drugs for the older brother. Families don't become more dysfunctional that this.
Luke is a cock-sure confident to the point of dangerous kid caught is a terrible situation. No guidance, completely on his own, with responsibilities no teenager should have.
Given both their home situations, both boys are desperate for some independence and escape from their circumstances, and that leads them to make so very bad decisions.
Malachy is the caretaker of Luke, and Luke is the risk taker dragging Malachy along. Neither, typical of teens, has much foresight.
Overall, I found this a satisfying movie, and I have no regrets paying $33 for it. If it had played near where I live, it would have played 120 miles from away in the nearest independent film theater. When you consider the cost of Gas, Food, and Tickets, I figure I got off cheap.
Again, limited due to budget as all indy films are, yet thoroughly engaging with a solid believable story, and engrossing characters.
