Wow. I have noticed one thing that happens to me in a similar vein; when
I'm very relaxed, in a quiet environment, with my eyes closed (i.e.,
just dropping off to sleep, lying in the yard, that sort of thing) and
there's a sudden noise, there's a simultaneous sudden flash of light
(inside my eyelids). It's always the sort of thing that wakes you and
you're not sure what it was, because you were a tiny bit on the other
side of conscious. But I'm never sure if it's the noise or the light
that rouses me. I've wondered why my mind makes the light for sudden
noises under those conditions. I'll have to find that Smithsonian!
