I remember when I was child that joke was told of Israel: How do you 
make a small fortune in Israel? Make aliyah with a large one..

That was back when Israel was relatively poor (BUT had one of the 
best medical and educational systems in the western (!) world. It 
also had the highest degree of economic equality. Then .. well, then 
privatization started..God, don't you just "love" capitalism?)
