This is a slightly late reply to Rita.

>I don't think f/f in this fandom HAS to be about Hermione.

No, but it seems to be the default. Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, I
don't like writing about characters under sixteen having sex, and I don't
usually write without strong implications of sex, even if the story doesn't
have any actual sex in it. And the trio are just below the age I would write.

>I think EVERYONE fell for Bill, including (in a non-sexual way)
>Harry, who noticed well enough to tell us that Bill is "cool" and
>good-looking, and also watched him being competent.

That's interesting. Maybe that's a part of why I fell for Bill. Harry's
perspective of him.

>When I was arguing that it is possible (not likely, not required,
>just possible) for JKR to introduce a token gay character

This may be a phrasing quibble, but personally, I'd rather JKR didn't
introduce *any* character as a token one. For example, Dean and Angelina
aren't token black characters. They're characters who happen to be black
and are interesting outside of their race or skin colour. In fact, for
quite a period of time, I don't think we even know that they're black, and
it's just dropped in casually, like it isn't a big deal, which it isn't.
And if Bill does happen to be gay, I'd love to see her do that in exactly
the same low-key way. Unfortunately, I feel that maybe sexual orientation
might not be so easy to do in the same low-key way as skin colour, which on
one side may be an example of progress, but on the other it is sadly not.

>Molly jumps to another conclusion and tries not to act horrified: "A
>veela???"

I can just see Molly's face at the thought of this.

>Molly sits down hard in her chair and the rest of the story is about
>the Weasleys getting use to the idea of their new brother-in-law.
>**I** like the idea that Ron is utterly freaked out / grossed out
>about it, and Hermione and Harry educate him about respecting
>diversity and anti-homophobia. Hermione has all the good liberal
>ideas, and Harry saw on TV about the Muggles have laws against
>descriminating against gays and only Dursleys get rude and nasty
>about it. Preachy, but in character.

This would be so much fun to see. It might even work in fanfic.

Speaking of Bill, if it were to ever get to the casting stage, I have one
picked out. Unfortunately, I doubt he'd be considered. But I would love to
see Cole Hauser play him. He's not a very well-known actor, he's only been
in a few movies in small roles, and a second lead in the sf/thriller movie
Pitch Black in which everyone remembers Vin Diesel. But he's got the
Weasley red hair, he can act, and he just looks to me like I imagine Bill
to be. But I doubt it'll happen.

Joanne.
