Long ago (in HPfGU, that means more than a month), someone recommended a
Sirius site (and I just checked that it is still there)

I shouldn't try to speak for Simon, but the impression that I got from
his post was not that he was scared of the police officers, but that he
was scared (actually, just a little bit concerned, but that doesn't have
the same rhythm) that the REASON the police were there was to some deal
with some wrongdoer who might be a danger to him, I mean like 'are the
police here because there is a crazy sniper in the area who might shoot
me?"

Actually, I think those dreadfully written, implausible, and politically
incorrect books (of which I read my share when I was in college) are the
BEST quality of product that Barbara Cartland had the ability to turn
out.

No, I'm somewhere else.

I postponed the baby until I get the RFP for the new warranty system
approved.

Oh, yes, I decided to use this newly available space to carry earthquake
preparedness supplies.

I suspect that if the girl was actually *Hermione*, she actually (but
secretly) would really like to be given girly things for her prezzie.
However, if the two of you aren't dating, you would be taking a big risk
by giving her lace underwear or a ruffley nightie.

STAR WARS was 'appropriated' from the culture as mythology, except that
appropriation with a multi-million dollar budget is called 'homage'.
People who know from movies can tell you from which British WWII movie
of heroic pilots trying to bomb a bridge or railway track was copied the
footage of Luke bombing the Death Star, etc.

The same thing happened to one of Yael's messages on the HPff egroup
this week. The same thing happened to a message on a totally different
e-mail-list months ago, and I wish I could exactly quote the fabulouse
explanation one member offered, about how the Internet routes packets
(which is what e-mail is made of) according to the path that is more
efficient at the exact instant, bla bla bla, and some router calculated
that the most efficient path for your post was thru a planet orbitting
Alpha Centauri....
It just happens, every once in a while the Internet throws an e-mail
into the bit bucket (/dev/null or DD DUMMY) and every once in a while,
it pulls an e-mail OUT of the bit bucket and sends it on its belated
way.
