My children were almost teenagers before they knew that most people
ate plain white pancakes for breakfast. Theirs were always blue.
My mom tells about the first time as a newly wed (at age 16) that she
and my dad entertained guests. She wanted to make it special, so she
made a pound cake and swirled blue food coloring into the batter.
When they cut into the cake after supper, everyone was horrified to
see what looked like old moldy cake.
