I suspect that "The Golden Compass" is the american title of "Northern 
Lights."  :P

Without a doubt.  It was published recently by Scholastic in the states....I 
have no idea if it's available in England, or if the title was changed for 
American audianced.  You might want to try proking around Amazon.com.
