I wrote, confusingly:

Sorry, Cindy, forgot to say who he was.  He played Elrond, the council 
chair with the braids.  And you did a pretty good job of keeping the 
characters straight for someone who hasn't read the book.  JRRT is 
notorious for giving characters, places, etc. 10 names each (what 
they're called by the elves, dwarfs, humans, etc. etc.), and they 
carried a bit of that over into the movie.
