A cough and sore throat remedy I use is similar to this.  

Prepare your favourite tea (herbal or not, it doesn't matter).  Add a 
small amount of honey.  Singers have used this for aeons.  Another 
remedy (which my mum used on me & I still use) is to take a teaspoon 
of your favourite whiskey and add a small amount of honey.  Repeat as 
needed.  This is *guaranteed* to cut coughs.  Mum used it on me when 
I had whooping cough as a child.  *Please* get better soon!
