It's a really funny scene, and I liked it.

Actually, I liked it. Most times when a movie does that plot, either the
actress is beautiful even in the supposedly awkward stages, or she doesn't
look as good as she's supposed to (at least in my eyes) after the supposed
transformation. In this movie, however, Sandra Bullock did look awkward and
not all that attractive, but she looked good when the transformation happened.
