Not BOURGEOISIE, or at least I don't recall being bothered by the 
Hobbit bourgeoisie (Bagginses, Tooks, Brandywines). PEASANTRY. It 
was the happy peasants who knew their place who bugged me (and LeGuin, 
from your quote below).
