TDIR is one of my favorite kid serieses- I pull it out and read it
periodically simply because it's so enjoyable. It can be a little bit
confusing at parts (or so I seem to remember, I read the books for the first
time in 3rd-4th-5th grade), but that's about the only drawback to them.
Also, Lloyd Alexander's Prydain books, and there's a neat Taliesien story
called "A String in the Harp" which is probably out of print, as it's a
rather old title.
