How about instead of "starving artist" you could say "struggling
artist"? You don't have to starve then but can keep the delicious angst
which seems so romantic!

On a tangent, I've always loved the musical "RENT" and "La Vie Boheme"
is one of my favorite songs from it. "To days of inspiration, playing
hooky, making something out of nothing, the need to express, to
communicate, to going against the grain, going insane, going maaaaad!"
Oh Jonathan Larson, why did you have to leave the world so soon?

Gah, I'd completely forgotten about that book! I believe its got a
sequel to it too, but I remember thinking that it wasn't nearly as good
as the first book. To have a magic cupboard! I must admit that if I had
*had* a magic cupboard, my Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bear dolls
would probably have been stuffed in it post-haste! I never saw the
live-action movie that came out, was it worth seeing?
