thought British crosswords were all cryptics (that's what we call the

Aha, that British use of "cheers."  That explains:  "'Well, yeh 
might've bent a few rules, Harry, bu' yeh're all righ' really, aren' 
you?' 'Cheers, Hagrid,' said Harry, grinning."
