You're right, Cait, his appearance is very brief. But that scene where he comments on how much she's grown as she asks him to pick her up and "airplane" her like when he did when she was smaller always brings tears to my eyes.

That's one of several things I think are missing from most Disney movies -- touching and loving relationships between kids (both sons and daughters) and fathers.

  Actually, as I remember it, Kiki's dad makes um... one? appearance and he's 
  rather brief. But still, a wonderful movie. Miyazaki is the same guy who did 
  Mononoke-hime and I think he did Nausicaa too, I don't remember, though.
