Well, the US has some weird pronunciations as well.  When I was in college, I lived in a dorm named "Worcester"  pronounced "Wooster."  Friends of mine live in a town named "Taneytown" pronounced "Tawneytown."  And the natives get very annoyed if you call it Tay-nee-town.
And I still call Dacula (duh KOO luh) Georgia "Dracula."
