A Story about "Biased"

Hello --

This is a story I'm telling on myself. When I was about 11, I came
across the word "biased" in something I was reading. Gradually, I
learned what it meant through context, but I didn't know that you
shouldn't pronounce it with two distinct syllables.

So one day Mom and I were having a conversation about something, and
I said, "Well, I'm biased about that." To my discomfiture she
laughed at me and said, "Bi-assed, are you? Well, I should hope so!
I'd feel sorry for you if you only had one!"

I would not say I have a huge sense of humor about myself, but I had
to laugh along on that one.

Lisa
