I always thought it was "Hear, Hear", too.  Is it "Hear ye, hear ye" 
in Parliament?  If so, that suggests that "Hear, here" is correct.  
But then again, I really have no idea.

Another phrase that gets mutilated a lot is "I could care less," when 
the person really means "I couldn't care less."

Cindy (who is pleased that one can get pretty far in life without
