My approach was just to tell my dear son (I'm on the third round of
potty training at the moment) that he was too big for diapers....they
just didn't make diapers that fit him anymore...then we put him in
those thick training pants. Make up 5 changes of clothing...put each
change (including socks) in it's own zip-lock bag stash all 5
ziplocks in a carry bag and take it everywhere with you. It's very
messy and you end up doing laundry daily for about two weeks until
they get the hang of it. We did use pullups at night and for long
car trips or other times we knew might be too messy to deal with
soiled undies...
The advantage of this is that it provides the child with some
incentive to use the potty...they don't get wet and icky. While my
dear sons were in diapers and pullups there was no reason for them to
stop their play and use the potty (diapers and pullups are almost too
efficient)
That's my 2 knutes for what it's worth...good luck and don't sweat it.
