End of year newsletters

Yes, they do, but it's not very common, IMO.  We did our first ever 
one at the end of 2000, because quite a lot had happened that was 
worth mentioning.  We didn't last year.

It's not a very British thing to do.  It seems to show a degree of 
self-advertisment that is regarded as unseemly.  Like Mrs Thatcher 
giving out signed photos of herself to visiting world leaders (a 
nation cringed).  A bit, well, Gilderoy, really.  Swanky, as they 
used to say in the old school stories.

An exception is those people who are living on the generosity of 
others, e.g. training for church ministry etc, where it may be 
presumed that the donors are interested in the people they are 
supporting, who are often far away.
