Imagine if you will that the major characters of Star Trek Deep Space 
9 were wizards and witches. The Bajoran freedom fighters would be put 
in Gryffindor - or at least Major Kira Nerys would be, whereas the 
Bajoran spiritual leader, Kai Wynn (in our house she's known as ever-
so-evil Kai Winn) would have to be a Slytherin. So would Quark, the 
Ferengi bar owner, but his brother Rom would be a Hufflepuff. Dr. 
Julian Bashir would probably be a Ravenclaw, but the Sorting Hat 
might have some trouble placing him. Benjamin Cisco, of course, would 
be a Gryffindor. Cardassian and Romulan schools of wizardry would 
specialize in teaching the Dark Arts (with no DADA classes 
available).
